Success is Not What You Think it is

Oh my, what a year it has been! I don’t know about you, but I feel like this past year (or couple of years) has really done us all in. I’m assuming I don’t need to recount the series of global and national events that have occurred to justify my statement, but let’s talk about how it’s affected our personal lives. Life has just been… different. Let’s put it that way.

Before I fully dive into the topic of today’s blog to take a moment and say…….

Whoever you are, I am proud of you! You’ve come this far. I strongly urge you to take a moment to pat yourself on the back and exhale. You’re here! And I’m truly glad you’re here reading this blog post because I feel it’s a goodie 🙂

So let me ask you this. Have you ever dwelled on that one accomplishment that would change your life forever? And if you only had it, your life would feel just that much better. If you answered yes, trust me, I hear you… I wanted a promotion so badly!!!!! Guess what? I got it. Having been the only thing I thought about for six plus months, I then thought now what? Then I dwelled on getting an award. Guess what? I got one. The high only lasted for about 2 days. Now what? I’m not saying these things don’t matter at all. It’s awesome to be promoted and recognized for our hard work. We deserve it! But is that it? That’s our measurement of success? Having to constantly prove ourselves? It doesn’t feel quite right.

Yesterday I was listening to a podcast conversation and in the middle of the episode, one person said “to me, success is not accolades, success to me is a lifestyle..” This tiny comment blew me away. I couldn’t stop replaying it in my mind after the podcast ended.

Success is a lifestyle.

So what does that mean for my life? Does that mean working until I go to bed isn’t my path to true success?

Success is a lifestyle.

What this means to me is living a lifestyle that allows you to do the things that make your soul truly happy. How can we get there? Let’s start by creating boundaries. Think about where and how you can make space for the things that truly make you feel alive and joyful. Make this your priority.

Thank you for reading!
